abstract = "Analysis of environmental factors allows to estimate the fire risk
and the establishment of the danger degrees associated to these
variables. The aim of this research was to propose a model of
forest fire risk map for the Serra do Intendente State Park, Minas
Gerais, Brazil, and their buffer zone. In Geographical Information
System, the fire risk map was built up through the integrated
analysis of vegetation cover, slope gradient, aspect, and human
presence, represented by roads and tracks, using the weighed
overlay method. The validation of the forest fire risk map was
done by the comparison between the final forest fire risk map and
forest fire occurrence reported in the Park. It was observed that
35,73% of the study area presents high risk, 51.36% moderate risk,
11.82% low risk and 1,09% null risk. Due to the major vegetation
cover is representing by small fuel, most of park is dominate by
moderate risk, however the risk become high with. human activities
proximity. The map validation showed that over 58% of historical
fire occurrences match with high fire risk. These results will
help adopt preventive actions in critical areas, improving the
fire control system efficiency and optimizing the available
                         resources.",
